Southport Weekender & Suncebeat Festival fast selling out!

Get involved….Southport Weekender & Suncebeat Festival

Whilst there are many festivals & music events taking place around the world each year, catering for all tastes, ages & walks of life, for lovers of the deep & soulful varieties there are two hugely respected sister events that pave the way & are the gigs of choice for those in the know – Southport Weekender (now in it’s 28th year) & Suncebeat, with 2015 being it’s 6th year in the Croatian Sun.

I’ve personally been blessed to make literally 100’s of friends & share many of my best life-experiences at both of these events. I’ve even been graced with the opportunity to spin at both…a truly humbling experience!

Check out the line-ups – plenty of serious music sessions guaranteed.  Among others,  I’m looking forward to seeing & hearing Jarrod Lawson (& feel-good legends Roy Ayers & Brand New Heavies), Ron Trent, Chez Damier & Kerri Chandler back to back, Rainer Truby, Andrew Ashong, Floating Points, Osunlade, Culoe De Song, Sadar Bahar, Nightmares On Wax & The Reflex. But as always, it’s often the unplanned & random moments that catch you off guard & pleasantly surprise you.

Check out the videos below which give you a small taste of what’s on offer. If you’re even partially inclined or interested, then head on over to this link to get the full info, line-up, travel & accommodation info etc

Alternatively head over to www.SouthportWeekender.co.uk & www.Suncebeat.com

Both are close to selling out, so don’t snooze!

From the archives….guest mix for Michael Ruetten’s SoulSearching

Somebody just sent me a message about an old ‘deep house classics’  mix I did that I’d forgotten about. I need to find the full mix from the archives & upload it, but Michael Ruetten, expert curator behind the widely respected Soul Searching Radio show got in touch & asked if he could share it.

Below is the first part of my mix. It starts at 1:07:18 of Michael’s show. If you’re not familiar with Michael, then check out his quality shows here http://www.mixcloud.com/soulsearching_michaelruetten.

NB: Alongside Rainer Truby, Michael delivered one of the best afternoon DJ sets I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing whilst sailing on the Adriatic coastline a few years ago. Impeccable. Nobody wanted to leave the boat at the end and kept cheering!

New Delectronic Soul mix just uploaded: Inward Journey Outwards

Inspired by recent events & some journeying, I really enjoyed recording this deep, melodic mix.

I was in a pretty mellow & introspective mood when I recorded this, which I think is reflected in the overall feel & pitch & hence the name.

Music from Osunlade, Atjazz, Detroit’s Kyle Hall, South Africa’s Jullian Gomes & Da Capo, Brooklyn’s Alison Crockett, D-Malice & Floating Points among others.
Turn it up, relax & enjoy x

Boiler Room at Southport Weekender: Scruff, Kerri, Gilles, Kenny & crew

Boiler Room came up to the big Southport ’50’ Weekender & took over the Mi-Soul Radio studio whilst they talked with a number of the old-school heads about what Southport means to them.

It was good to be in the studio & hear them talk Southport, music & memories, reasserting why this event means so much to them & is so widely respected around the world.  Watch the interviews below with Mr Scruff, Kerri Chandler, Gilles Peterson, Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez, Joey Negro & Terry Hunter.

Southport Weekender – the big 50.

Southport 50 was all it was t’d up to be & more. It was up there as one of the very best weekends, epitomised by a good friend (no names, Daniel Daw) who was so eager & excited to arrive on friday that he returned on Sunday afternoon to find this notice on his windscreen, quote “You left your car running this whoooole weekend. Facccccccck” Lol, over£1200 in damage…..and he still said it was well worth it. That’s love of music right there!

Daw left engine running

Here are a few write ups of this classic weekend:

It goes without saying that it was an absolute honor to be asked back to spin in the Suncebeat Dome on Friday night. Pure goodness all weekend.

Here’s my selection –
